9 Objects Whose Time Has Come Again

expand

Why are we so fond of time-worn things? It is hardly a secret that most of us have at least a few cherished possessions that have been passed down to them from their parents and grandparents, even if it is just a couple of old photos and toys. Some don't stop at looting their grandparents' chests and take treasure hunting to flea markets. These people seem to have a special talent: somehow they are able to find a rare gem among worthless trinkets – however, who is to say those seemingly trifle knick-knacks won't interest someone else?

9 Objects Whose Time Has Come Again

If any proof of unweaving love for antique things was needed, take a look at all those flourishing auctions and flea markets. There are a number of reasons for this. To start with, it is hard not to feel nostalgic over the good olden times when we were younger, trees were higher and life was more carefree. The second reason is quality. This explanation is by far the simplest, as well as the most  reasonable and acceptable for a self-respecting adult. Handicraft and organic materials, all that. In fact, it is often but a justification of our own sentimentality in the face of arrogant youngsters. The final blow that ends all discussions about pros and cons of old-fashioned things: "They just don't make things like that anymore." But what about all those objects of questionable value that make the essence of the 20th century – the age of plastic and mass production? Well, here is your answer and the third reason – the most mysterious and probably the most true of all – the heart and soul. The soul is the key word in this fervent and at times quite silly attachment to the past. Objects that have lived a long life, have witnessed world catastrophes, have soaked in human joys and sorrows – those objects are nothing like the ones fresh out of factory that don't have any history behind them. Call it whatever you like: mysticism, superstition, plain nonsense, but time-worn things have a unique feeling about them. And to tell the truth, there is no point in looking for a sound rational explanation. People simply love old things, love their familiar look, love their ...soul.

You disagree? That old lamp shade is getting on your nerves? You're fed up with chipped crockery from last century? You had no regrets throwing out your grandmother's ancient furniture? So now you feel superior, having found proof that our theory doesn't work. Just wait and see – it only means that the time isn't right for those things yet. In the meantime we, vintage-loving geeks that we are, invite you to take a look at our treasures.
